Do you ever feel stuck when it comes to your relationship with food? Whether you are in the midst of eating disorder recovery, a parent or caregiver of a loved one struggling, trying to practice the Intuitive Eating principles, or working to understand the best ways to nourish yourself throughout the day – navigating nutrition is hard!
There are many varying opinions when it comes to the “best” way to nourish yourself that even trying to wade through it all can become too overwhelming to take the first step. It can leave you feeling uncertain in yourself, disconnected from your body, and overall feeling more frustrated than when you first started! Does this sound familiar?
So many of our clients come to us in this place: stuck, confused, and disconnected from what *actually* feels good for them. From what they’re told online, nutrition “should be easy” – So why the heck are they feeling so burnt out from navigating their concerns?!
While our one-on-one nutrition counseling through insurance helps us to explore relationships with food in a more in depth way and create value-aligned goals together, we were finding that the 60 minutes a week sometimes didn’t feel like enough. Clients were wanting opportunities to really practice the work we have been talking about, in the real time, so they could learn from their experiences and understand how to move forward.
So…. we made a service to help them be able to do that. Insert: BITES!
Our Balanced Individualized Targeted Educational Services (or BITES for short) are action-oriented coaching sessions designed to meet you exactly where you’re at. We wanted to have services that could be accessed by anyone, anywhere, so that you start to feel less alone, overwhelmed and lost when navigating nutrition.
We know that having a new service can sometimes raise questions – so we took the time to answer the top questions about BITES below. Let’s dive in!
BITES FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How will this help me?
Through a BITE session, your dietitian can help execute your choice of outcome by providing you with clear, actionable steps to work towards your individualized goals. We all need support at times to help us feel “unstuck” with specific barriers. A BITE provides accountability and structured, action-oriented insight into your most pressing goals.
These are appropriate for most clients and can tackle a wide variety of concerns such as: meal or snack support, Intuitive Eating strategies, Parent and Caregiver support, Grocery shopping, Meal Planning and more!
As always, our dietitians practice through a non-diet, weight-neutral viewpoint and do not focus on weight as a measurable goal or health outcome.
what makes this different from my regular sessions with my dietitian?
Great question! Your regular one-on-one, 60 minute nutrition sessions with your dietitian will be a chance for you to explore your thoughts and relationship with food while working to understand what your individual treatment goals are. A BITE session would be your support in executing those goals at a smaller level. A BITE session is appropriate for clients who need support in the *action* step of goals versus the exploratory steps.
For example - in a session with your dietitian, you may explore your various fear foods and create a hierarchy together. In a BITE session, you would practice challenging those fear foods.
This allows you to do more exploratory work in your regular sessions with your dietitian as well as have more support and accountability outside of the singular 60 minute session. Again, we encourage these BITE visits for clients who are ready and open to the *action* steps of moving towards a goal.
Do I need to be an active NourishRX client to do BITES?
The short answer to this is, no! Anyone is able to access BITES. Since this is an out of pocket payment and a coaching service, we are able to virtually see clients throughout the country with any insurance provider. Due to the low cost, we are hopeful this will help increase access to non-diet, eating disorder informed care to those in need.
will insurance cover my bites visit?
As stated above, this is a non-insurance based service. That means, all BITE visits are out of pocket payments. However, our goal is to keep the price of these services low to be able to increase access for those in need.
can I do BITES while in a higher level of care?
First, we would encourage you to discuss this with your treatment team and make an informed decision about what is the best for your individual care. With consent, our team would be happy to collaborate with any members of your treatment care. However, BITES are made for everyone and our team would serve as a further support in executing your current treatment goals.
do I book with the same or different dietitian?
This is up to you! You will have access to all of our dietitians and have the choice to book with the same provider or with a new provider on a weekly basis. Booking is limited to the dietitian’s availability. You will be able to directly book yourself online to conveniently suit your schedule.
We hope you’re as excited about this new service as us! If you have any additional questions, make sure to contact us directly to talk it through. If you’re feeling ready to jump in - let’s take it one BITE at a time.
